Finding Your Birthmother
WE SPECIALISE IN FINDING BIRTH MOTHERS FOR ADOPTED ADULTS
In 2016 UK Adoption Tracing Service successfully completed 98.8% of all searches.
We offer a FREE (with no obligation) assessment to undertake a preliminary search of the details you give to us. This enables us to offer our full search service to you only when we establish that the search can proceed due to other information found - hence our very high success rates.
A search is considered successful when the one of the following is met:
1. The named birth relative is found and a current name and address is given in a full report
2. The named birth relative has passed away and a final resting place/or death certificate has been found/or the relative who registered the death has been located
3. A third party who can contact the named birth relative via an intermediary has been found e.g in the event of emigration
How long will a full search take?
Some searches can take only a few days but each search is different and every avenue of searching is thoroughly investigated, ensuring that your birth mother/parent is found.
What if my birth mother has passed away?
If this should be the case we would be able to tell you the final resting place and search for any relative that registered the death
What happens when you have found my birth mother?
You will be sent a full report containing your birth mother's current name and address. We will also be able to advise and discuss with you the option of using an intermediary service. You may wish to just keep the information and not make contact with your birth mother. It is your choice at the end of the search and your birth mother will not be made aware of the search.
What do I need?
All you will need to supply is your birth mothers full name which can be found on your original birth certificate or other adoption papers. The more details you can supply the more likely a successful search will be!
In order to start a search make an ENQUIRY. We will let you know by email if we can take on the search.
You may wish to place your details on the UKATS Adoption Contact Register to check that your relative is not already listed and searching too. Please do take time to read our testimonies of people who have used our service Testimony
On completion of your search - and only should you wish to go on to make an approach to your birth relative, we strongly recommend using an adoption intermediary service. This allows your birth relative time to decide how they wish to respond and research has shown that using an intermediary service has a much higher success rate of a favourable response.
We will be happy to advise you of what is available to you at the end of the search.
If you have not yet received access to your birth records (your original birth certificate) you may obtain this information by contacting The Registrar General Office on 0300 123 1837 or follow the link on our RESOURCES page.
